Airplanes equipped with four engines are being used less and less because they represent lower efficiency and higher operating costs. In this way, Tel Aviv International Airport, Israel's main airport, has banned the operation of four-engine aircraft from March 31, 2023.

The airport authority said on Sunday that the biggest concern is the noise generated by this type of plane and air pollution.

The measure may seem radical, but planes with four engines have not operated there for some time. For example, the Boeing 747-400 of Israel's main airline, El Al Israel Airlines. stopped flying in September 2019. The carrier's long-haul aircraft are now the Boeing 777 and 787.

Airplanes with four engines are mostly used only for cargo transport. The operation of aircraft with four engines at the airport will only be allowed with a special authorization in exceptional cases.

In addition, four-engine aircraft are being replaced by newer, more efficient, twin-engine aircraft, meeting the aviation industry's goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
