Qatar Airways and British Airways today announced another phase of the expansion of their partnership, this being the last one. The developments are part of the “Move Further Together” plan. 42 countries have been added to the shared destination network.
With the addition, the number of countries served jointly is greater than the network of any joint company in the world. The total number of destinations offered reaches 185 in 60 different countries.
“Customers will have more freedom to interact with both airlines' loyalty programs, earning and spending Avios, their common currency. Customers can link their Qatar Airways Privilege Club and British Airways Executive Club accounts to transfer Avios between the two and combine balances to claim rewards offered by each program. The collaboration also offers access to the airline's exclusive lounges and cabins for all budgets and needs, including British Airways' new Club Suite and Qatar Airways' award-winning Qsuite.
The companies' plans are big, with a video claiming the best of both companies is being offered to usher in a new era of air travel.
However, the partnership is not all that surprising, as Qatar Airways owns more than a quarter of IAG (International Airline Group), the parent company of British Airways. During the height of the coronavirus crisis, Qatar contributed millions of dollars to help IAG companies stay alive.
