United Airlines held its prestigious 'Girls in Aviation Day' event, which brings young women around the world to discover the possibilities of careers in the aviation sector. Last Thursday, September 22, the company held the event for the first time in Brazil.

Thirteen girls between the ages of 12 and 18 gathered at Guarulhos Airport to participate in the event, encouraged by the Instituto Vozes das Periferias, which aims to democratize opportunities in the favelas of Vila Prudente and Jardim Sinhá. The Institute promotes activities in the areas of communication, sports, culture, professional qualification and income generation in order to offer new opportunities to low-income youth.

The young women were introduced to a range of career possibilities in aviation through dialogues with airport professionals. They were also taken inside a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, where they had a meal on board.

This type of action is of great importance to encourage a more diverse and inclusive aviation, especially in Brazil, where only 3% of commercial pilot positions are held by women.
