Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) banned jet planes from landing in Fernando de Noronha. According to ordinance, the ban goes into effect on October 12.
Fernando de Noronha receives five flights a day, four from Azul and one from Gol.
Anac notified the airline operators on Wednesday (5). The government of Pernambuco and the company that operates the airport also received the notification.
The notification mentions that the reason is the track conditions, but without explaining exactly why. However, there are two exceptional situations in which the operation of a jet aircraft may occur: Medical emergency or transport of valuables after prior coordination with the airport operator.
The ban is provisional and does not have a defined term yet, but it must remain in place until the airport demonstrates compliance with the necessary measures for the safe operation of airplanes with jet engines.
Fernando de Noronha airport is currently undergoing works, with no take-offs and landings overnight. However, the problem of paving the track was not resolved in these three years. The operational safety requirements (maintenance, airport operations and emergency response) contained in the Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC) No. 153 and Resolution No. 279/2013 must be met.
The company that operates the airport will try to reverse the measure.
Aircraft with turboprop engines such as the Cessna Caravan and ATR 72 will still be able to operate normally at the airport.
