Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced that it has entered into lease agreements for the Airbus A321XLR with Latam. The long-term contracts announced on Thursday (13) provide for the delivery of the aircraft between 2025 and 2026.
Airbus' ultra-long-range aircraft should contribute to the expansion of the company's routes, as it is a very versatile aircraft that can perform a number of types of flights. In addition, the aircraft offers a lower operating cost compared to previous generation aircraft.
The first test flight of the A321 XLR was successfully carried out in June this year, and the plane is in the certification process.
The A321 XLR has a range of 8700 km, with the capacity to carry out flights of up to 11 continuous hours.
Airbus had already shown interest in acquiring 17 A321neos, but had not specified the way in which this would be done, nor the variation of the plane.
“We are pleased to announce this lease placement for five new long-range Airbus A321 XLRs with our Chile-based customer LATAM Airlines and to be the first to introduce the XLR to the airline,” said Steven Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation.
