Following approval by the US civil aviation body, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), for the return of the Boeing 737 MAX to service, the only major market where commercial flights are still not happening is China.
The first commercial flights with the MAX after three years would take place yesterday, 30, by China Southern Airlines. The flights would be from the Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and Wuhan hub. This would be the MAX's first commercial operation on domestic flights in the country.
At least three 737 MAX 8 planes had been taken out of preservation and prepared for return, however, according to the company's website, the flights were cancelled. China Southern Airlines did not respond to the reason for the cancellations.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has not yet provided details on the release of the jet in its territory.
On October 10, a MIAT Mongolian Airlines 737 MAX landed in Guangzhou, the model's first flight in the country since the plane was grounded in 2019.
