The COMAC C919 jet was certified just over a month ago and has already accumulated more than a thousand orders, 300 of which were made during the first public appearance of the plane at the Zhuhai Air Show, in China.
State company COMAC made the announcement on November 8. According to information from the Yicai Global news agency, the request was made by leasing companies. The ARJ21 regional jet also received 30 orders during the first day of the event.
COMAC has not commented on the order, so the identity of the customers has not yet been revealed.
However, it is known that the first customer should start receiving the first units at the end of this year or beginning of next year, with China Southern Airlines being the launch customer.
According to the COMAC website, which is outdated in this regard, the plane already has 815 units ordered by 28 customers, most of them from China, but there are also orders from leasing giant GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).
The COMAC C919 is a single-aisle commercial jet made with the difficult task of competing with the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, which hold the title of best-selling aircraft in the world.
The ARJ21 is the first mass-produced passenger jet in China. The plane is derived from the design of the old McDonnell Douglas MD-80.
