The Japanese carrier, Skymark Airlines, which already has a fleet composed exclusively of 29 Boeing 737-800 NG, intends to renew its fleet in the next two to three years.

A more rational choice for fleet renewal in this scenario would be the 737 MAX, the newest generation of the 737 NG. In this way, the company announced today that it will acquire up to 12 units of the model. Four 737-8 and 737-10 planes would be purchased directly from Boeing, with options for 2 more, and the other six 737-8 planes would be from leasing companies.

“As Skymark Airlines looks to sustainably grow its fleet, the 737 MAX family offers industry-leading efficiency and environmental performance. With common and enhanced features, the 737-8 and 737-10 will enable Skymark Airlines to optimize its fleet across all operations, said Ihssane Mounir, Boeing's senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing.

The order has not yet been formalized and Boeing has not yet included the order in the backlog, which should occur when the agreement is finalized. It is worth remembering that the 737-10 has not yet been certified, which should only occur in 2024.
