The largest passenger plane in the world, the Airbus A380, arrived at Tom Jobim International Airport, Galeão, in Rio de Janeiro. The plane was flying from Dubai to São Paulo on Emirates when it diverted due to bad weather in the city of São Paulo.
The plane, registration A6-EUF, flew for almost 14 and a half hours before diverting due to bad weather, but it was not the only one that day. A Boeing 777 from Latam and one from KLM diverted their routes to Campinas and Rio de Janeiro, respectively, in addition to many other flights that same afternoon.
The Emirates flight even tried to land in Guarulhos (SP), but had to crash in the short final. The jet headed to Rio de Janeiro, where it stayed for three days, until Monday, the 14th, when it left for Dubai.
That time in Rio de Janeiro was enough to carry out unscheduled maintenance. Meanwhile, passengers who were on their way to SP continued to Guarulhos (GRU) on flights from other companies.
“Emirates confirms that flight EK261 from Dubai to São Paulo on 11 November was diverted to Rio de Janeiro due to severe weather conditions in São Paulo. Affected customers who planned to connect to other domestic and regional destinations have also been re-routed to alternative flights. Emirates apologizes for the inconvenience caused. The safety of our passengers and crew is of the utmost importance," Emirates said in a statement.
