Going back to 2019, Azul was the first Brazilian airline to receive the new generation Airbus A330-900neo (new engine option). This Wednesday, the 16th, Airbus confirmed that the Brazilian carrier has a firm order for 3 more units of the plane. However, the delivery date has not yet been revealed.
Azul already has 5 A330neo jets. With the new order, there will be 8, which, little by little, should retire the 7 A330-200 of the old generation that still operate for the company and have an average age of 20 years.
“We are delighted to have secured three more Airbus next-generation widebody aircraft in the coming years. This reaffirms our position as the airline with the most modern fleet in the region, with 70% of our capacity coming from economical and eco-friendly aircraft”, said John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul.
“We are focused on keeping our wide-body fleet stable while also benefiting from the fuel economy of these aircraft.”
In addition to the A330, the company's long-range fleet has 4 Airbus A350s that are not yet operating on a regular basis.
“We applaud Azul's decision, which shows its forward-looking strategy and proves that the economics and performance of the A330neo are the most attractive. The A330neo is the perfect tool to support Azul in expanding its fleet with the right-sized, modern widebody, leveraging the latest technology and efficiency and contributing to CO2 reduction,” said Christian Scherer, Commercial Director and Head of Airbus International.
