On Tuesday (29), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), released the C919, from COMAC, to be mass produced. Certification is a document that proves that the unit that leaves the production line is airworthy and that all production processes are as expected, from receipt of raw materials to the final product.

This certificate was issued just two months after the aircraft was certified by the CAAC in commercial flights, since in September COMAC announced the end of the necessary flight tests and in October it received the type certificate.

However, the jet cannot be exported yet, being restricted to China and some other local markets. Its export to Western operators depends on certification by other bodies, such as the US FAA and the European EASA.

China Eastern Airlines will be the first customer to receive the aircraft, with a firm order for 5 units and 15 additional purchase options. Furthermore, according to the COMAC website, there are already more than 800 orders for the plane, mostly from local airlines, but also from western leasing companies.

The jet is priced at around US$50 million, well below those charged by the newer generation A320s and 737s.
