According to aviation-related sources, Embraer confirmed that the next-generation turboprop project is suspended. The manufacturer came to the conclusion that the moment to take a project of this size forward is still not ideal.
However, the company continues to be in contact with potential interested parties and is carrying out market studies to find out suggestions to make the turboprop a market success, since there is demand for a next generation aircraft with capacity for 150 seats.
Since Embraer has identified that the demand for turboprops will grow a lot in the coming years, especially on regional and not very explored routes, the project was not left aside and will still be worked on, but it did not make it clear when this could happen.
The main reason why the manufacturer took the decision to postpone the project is that the options currently available in the supply chain would not be enough to guarantee key points of the new plane, such as performance, maintenance and the necessary sustainability.
"Embraer has decided to postpone the decision on whether to move forward with a next-generation turboprop aircraft, but will work closely with potential suppliers during the course of 2023 to secure the business the program requires," the company said.
In fact, the project consists of taking advantage of the excellent characteristics of the E-jet E2 with a different form of propulsion. The company claims that the new turboprop will have 15% lower operating costs, 25% more capacity, less fuel consumption and up to 20% higher cruising speed when compared to current generation turboprops.
