Xiamen Airlines, Boeing's traditional aircraft operator, started 2023 by receiving its first Airbus A321neo aircraft. This is the first Airbus in the company's fleet.

The company announced last year that it will receive an order for aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing. In this way, the company that previously operated only Boeing since its foundation, in 1984, will be a mixed company.

The order announced by the company in September last year included 40 aircraft from the A320neo family. The order is in line with the company's fleet growth planning, which in turn is in line with the increased demand for travel in China after the relaxation of Covid-19 health rules.

The new A321neo will start commercial flights for the company in early 2023. It is a leased aircraft and is configured for more than 200 seats divided into two classes.

The plane will come from the Airbus factory in China, in Tianjin. The manufacturer assembles its A320 planes at this factory since 2008. Since November, the factory has also assembled the A321. Furthermore, Airbus is increasing its production capacity.

Xiamen Airlines' strategy to become a mixed carrier may be an attempt to sidestep the supply chain problems that plague both Airbus and Boeing.
