Air France-KLM announced the purchase of seven Airbus A350 aircraft, four of which are the A350F cargo version and three are the A350-900 passenger version. Deliveries are scheduled for 2024.
The four cargo planes will be destined for KLM cargo and will be operated by Martinair. The aircraft are expected to replace KLM Cargo's current fleet of 4 Boeing 747Fs based at Schiphol International Airport (AMS) in Amsterdam.
The cargo market is strongly dominated by Boeing, however the A350F offers good cargo capacities combined with a reduction of more than 40% in emissions and 50% in noise, contributing to the ambitious goal of reducing 30% of CO2 emissions by passenger/km by 2030 compared to 2019.
The three A350-900s are part of the company's fleet renewal effort. “Investing in the renewal of our fleet means investing in the future of our Group,” said Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM.
