Ben Smith, CEO of the Air France-KLM group, reaffirmed the group's interest in the privatization process of TAP Air Portugal. The CEO highlighted the importance of TAP in the Brazilian market.

“We found the (TAP) network in Brazil extremely powerful for us,” said Bem Smith, according to Reuters.

The Portuguese government is considering selling TAP in part or in full soon. Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and IAG (parent company of British Airways and Iberia) are interested in a possible acquisition.

TAP's position in the Brazilian market really stands out among international flights. According to ANAC's 2022 airline ranking, TAP was the second airline that carried the most passengers on international trips, with almost 1.6 million passengers. Only LATAM transported more passengers abroad.

This number represents 10% of international traffic in Brazil. Furthermore, Air France and KLM together carried just over 1 million passengers in the same period.
