Akasa Air, an Indian airline that started operations just over 6 months ago, is showing great growth. The company's market share is already approaching 3%. However, the company needs more planes to continue sustained growth.
Currently, the carrier's fleet has 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8, with the rhythm of receiving a new aircraft every 15 days. The company's first aircraft order was for 72 aircraft of the type, with another large order scheduled to take place soon. The airline has not yet reported the amount, but hinted that it will be a large number.
"By the end of the year, we will place a large order for aircraft. I will not disclose the number, but the order will be in three digits and will be significant", said the company's CEO, Vinay Dube.
Since the beginning of the month, it is known that the company is in negotiations with major manufacturers, such as Boeing and Airbus.
To keep up with the growth in the fleet, the CEO said that an additional 300 pilots will be hired over the next 12 months, with the number reaching 3,500 over the next ten years.
The growth is closely linked with increased demand for travel to and from Bangalore, which is the airline's main base.
