Luxembourg-based airline Luxair will acquire four more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The airline will expand into short- and medium-haul routes and take advantage of strong demand for air travel.
The announcement was made by Boeing today (3). However, two planes will be acquired by the company through a leasing agreement and should be delivered between July and September of this year, while another two MAX 8s should be purchased directly from Boeing. The delivery date of these two planes was not disclosed.
“Luxair has taken a big step towards securing its role as the quality airline of Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Today marks just the beginning of the journey to secure Luxair's long-term future. Much more is yet to come”, as Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair, said.
The new routes from which the new planes will operate have not yet been announced.
Despite already having eight units of the Boeing 737 NG in its fleet, it will be the first time that the company will operate the new generation of the 737.
"With the selection of the 737-8, Luxair is building a more sustainable operation, significantly reducing CO2 emissions and offering the latest aircraft technology to its passengers," said Vice President Sales and Marketing Europe and Israel from Boeing, Ricardo Cavero.
