The Italian airline, ITA Airways, started flying with the Airbus A320neo last month and today has already received two more of the type. The aircraft will serve short and medium haul flights.
The planes were acquired through a leasing contract with Avolon and should give the company more space to meet demand this Italian summer. Two more A320neos will be delivered by Avolon to the airline.
"We are delighted to support ITA Airways with the delivery of the first A320neos to its fleet. One of our key commitments is to help customers transition to fuel efficient new technology aircraft, and this agreement demonstrates how a lessor how Avolon can help airlines achieve their sustainability ambitions," said Avolon COO Paul Geaney.
ITA highlights up to 20% greater fuel economy than previous generation aircraft and lower emissions. In addition, the company will have 80% of its fleet composed of new generation aircraft by 2026.
Currently, the ITA fleet comprises 29 A320-200s, 14 A319-100s, 8 A330-200s, 6 A350-900s, 5 A320neos and 4 A220-300s. Thus, the carrier is an exclusive Airbus operator.
