After the suspension of Viva Air flights (visit the external link for more information), the Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) of Colombia authorized the start of the certification process for JetSmart Colombia.

The Colombian aeronautical authority has already carried out analyzes related to the administrative, technical and financial capacity of JetSmart, an airline belonging to the Indigo Partners group.

As of November 2019, the carrier has requested a total of 111 routes based at El Dorado International Airport. However, the certification will allow Ultra Low Cost to operate domestic routes in a smaller volume than requested: 27 routes are expected in the short term.

“The approval by CEPA and Aerocivil of our application to enter 27 domestic routes is excellent news, as well as the start of JetSmart's certification as a Colombian airline. With that, we will immediately start the process and work hand in hand with Aerocivil to be able to fulfill all the requirements in the shortest possible time”, says Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSmart.

It is expected that in a short period the company will already have 12 Airbus A320neo in its fleet. It is likely that the first aircraft will come from JetSmart Chile.
