Shortly after the announcement that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) would end the SpaceJet regional jet program, images appear on the network of the second prototype of the plane being destroyed by an excavator.
The images show that the second prototype was scrapped at Grant County International Airport (MWH), in Moses Lake, Washington, United States (USA). This location is home to Mitsubishi Aircraft's US facilities, which closed in May 2020.

In total, six prototype Mitsubishi SpaceJet M90 aircraft were built, according to planespotters.net data. The scrapped aircraft was Manufacturer Serial Number (MSN) 10001, registered JA21MJ, and had been in storage at MWH since May 2020.
Despite spending more than $7.5 billion on the SpaceJet program, the Japanese company was unable to deliver a finished product to market because the aircraft was never approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The jet would enter the market to compete with Embraer's regional aircraft mainly in the US, where Embraer's presence is quite strong.
