The Budapest, Hungary-based ultra low-cost carrier announced ambitious plans for its growth in a public statement by the carrier's president, Robert Carey. The company will have more than 200 planes in its fleet by 2024. These plans are part of the company's strategy to take advantage of the high demand for flights post covid.
The company wants to become a leader in low-cost flights in Europe and the Middle East. Following its growth trend, the company plans to have more than 500 aircraft in its fleet by 2030.
The fleet growth plan will consequently lead to an increase in the frequency of current routes such as Rome, Naples, Berlin, Bari, Barcelona and Dubai. Also, more routes will be created. However, the increase in passengers is already expected for 2023. The company plans to transport 43 million passengers this year from Budapest's Farenc Liszt International Airport.
Although the company has solid growth plans in Europe, Carey said the focus is on growth in the Middle East, as the region still has more room for growth.
In the Middle East, expansion will take place through its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport over the next two years. The company will start to serve 24 Arab destinations, compared to the current 12.
The company's current fleet comprises 163 aircraft, 155 in Europe and 8 in Abu Dhabi. Wizz Air is an exclusive operator of Airbus planes, until now.
