Aerocivil, Colombia's civil aviation authority, authorized the merger between Avianca and Viva Air almost a year after the first request, but with conditions.

However, Avianca claims that Viva no longer has the same capacity as before the total suspension of its flights, on February 28th.

Seeming to be displeased with these conditions, Avianca issued a statement stating that it will study the resolution and the implications of the measures applied by the authority as soon as possible to verify whether the deal is still feasible.

In addition, Viva had other companies interested in the deal, such as LATAM, Wingo, Ultra Air and Aerolíneas Argentinas, so these companies can appeal the decision.

Until this step is completed, Avianca will have to wait before taking any action. Avianca's assistance plans for Viva passengers would remain free until today (24).

Colombia is considered an important market on the rise. However, Avianca mentions that “the speed of the authority will be fundamental for there to be a solution that allows safeguarding the existence of what remains today of the low-cost pioneer in Colombia”.

Avianca's statements show that negotiations are not closed. Even Avianca may be giving up on the merger.
