Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair, said the airline would return to Ukraine as soon as the country is deemed safe by aviation authorities.

When asked by the Simple Flying portal about returning to Ukraine as soon as it is safe, the answer was simple: "We will return to Ukraine as soon as possible. We were [carrying] 2 million passengers in Ukraine before Putin's invasion. We had plans to open 3-4 bases in Ukraine in 2022. We still see Ukraine as a market that has the same potential as Poland has."

"We would like to play a leading role in rebuilding air travel in Ukraine as soon as European agents or authorities tell us it is safe to do so."

Previously, Ryanair had a strong presence in Ukraine, with flights to Kiev, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv.

According to the CEO, it would not be convenient for the company for Ukraine to be declared safe soon, as the company's summer schedule is already done for this year. However, for the winter it would be good, because the company will have 60-80 aircraft on the ground for maintenance.

In addition, with the opening of Ukraine, Ryanair would not need to cut its capacity thanks to its new Boeing aircraft that are expected to arrive in the coming years.
