After frustrated conversations with Boeing for the acquisition of the 737 MAX, Ryanair is willing to pay more for the jets and has resumed talks with the American manufacturer. The main factor responsible for the end of negotiations for the MAX was the price, about 18 months ago.
The company's CEO, Michael O'Leary, has already publicly assumed that the potential order for more than 200 737 MAX aircraft could take months to happen and discounts are crucial.
O'Leary has been critical of Boeing for its inflated prices and delays in aircraft delivery in the recent past.
But the CEO has been pleased with Boeing recently for its efforts to end delivery delays despite supply chain difficulties.
O'leary acknowledged that the prices negotiated with Boeing will not decrease compared to his last order, which was heavily discounted, as it was placed at a critical moment for Boeing.
"Negotiations broke down about 18 months ago over what we thought was a blatant price from Boeing. We accept that whatever new aircraft we want, we're going to have to pay slightly more than the last order. The last order was priced during the maximum grounding, so we got an exceptional deal”, said the CEO of Ryanair.
The company is interested in a possible deal for the acquisition of the 737 MAX 8-200, a more condensed version of the 737-8, or the 737-10.
Anyway, O'Leary emphasizes that the negotiations are still very early and thinks that nothing more will be done in a period of 6 months to a year.
