EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) issued an AD (Airworthiness Directive, in English, or Diretriz de Airnavability, in Portuguese) that deals with a possible unsafe condition in the bathrooms of the Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000.
According to the agency, there may be several points of corrosion on the floor of the lavatories of these planes, which could even lead to the detachment of the lavatory module. This condition could cause injuries to crew or passengers, "possibly resulting in reduced evacuation capability on the plane in an emergency."
The AD obliges the airlines operating the jet to perform general repetitive visual inspections (GVI) of all sanitary floor accessories and, depending on the configuration of the aircraft and the results of the GVIs, must complete a corrective action, as determined in the issued bulletin. by Airbus on January 31, 2023.
The first inspection must take place 6 to 36 months from May 31st. The following inspections must always take place every 36 months.
In addition, airlines must report findings to Airbus.
