The company formed on March 12 this year, Riyadh Air, has not even started yet and is reportedly in talks with Boeing for a large order of at least 150 737 MAX.
Neither Boeing nor the airline commented on the matter. However, sources connected to the negotiation show that Riyadh Air is looking for 300 to 400 single-aisle jets, which could mean that Airbus could also participate, probably with the A321neo.
However, the advantage is still with Boeing, as the American manufacturer has the ability to offer delivery slots faster than Airbus, which could only deliver after 2029.
The new airline is expected to offer services that are complementary to those currently offered by the current Saudia from its hub, King Khalid International Airport (RUH). By 2030, Saudi Arabia wants to have 330 million passengers per year – three times more than the country has today.
