Rumors were already floating around the internet that Indian low-cost giant IndiGo would place a record order for new aircraft. Today it's official: during the Paris Air Show, the company placed a record order for 500 aircraft from the Airbus A320 family.

This order from India's largest airline is the largest single purchase agreement in aviation history. The company is already a major Airbus operator, but today's order has further increased the number of Airbus Aircraft ordered by the airline. There are 1330 new planes to be received. IndiGo has become the largest operator of the A320 family in the world.

“You can imagine how proud this moment is for us at Airbus and, quite frankly, for me personally, to be sitting here in such great company. It's been 18 years from nothing to where IndiGo is today. We at Airbus are incredibly, incredibly gratified and proud of this partnership that has brought the democratization of air travel to India,” said Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer.

IndiGo intends to grow even more and expand its presence in the international market to 30%. The plane that will help with this is the A321. Could the airline be preparing a large order for widebody aircraft?

GOOD DAY FOR AIRBUS

But this was not the only order received by Airbus on the first day of the Paris Air Show. Air Mauritius has ordered 3 A350s, bringing its future A350 fleet to seven. Saudi flynas has also placed an order for 30 A320neo family aircraft, including ten A321XLRs. So far Boeing has not announced any orders.
