An Antonov An-2, carrying 5 people, had an accident while taking off in Sweden. The plane, which is the largest single engine in the world, is the first model built by Antonov (unit built in 1981). The aircraft took off without enough power for a safe takeoff and crashed meters later.
The pilot tried to land on a road ahead, but he would have to go over trees. The plane failed and hit them. Fortunately, no passengers or crew were seriously injured.
The aircraft was privately owned. Swedish authorities have launched an investigation into the accident.
Pilot Kjell Brattfors explained to the Swedish press that he had flown the aircraft for 30 years and that pre-flight checks were considered normal. "We tested the engine and everything and then it didn't take off," he said.
