Airbus inaugurated another final assembly line (FAL) for the A320 line in Toulouse, France. The factory was set up in the Jean-Luc Lagardère building, the same place where the manufacturer assembled the old A380 until 2021.
“The opening of this new A321 compatible final assembly line in Toulouse represents another milestone in the ongoing modernization of our global industrial system. This FAL will contribute to increasing the ongoing production rate to 75 A320 Family aircraft per month in 2026, meeting the increased demand for A321s, which currently represents around 60% of the total A320 Family backlog,” said the Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.
Airbus, like its rival Boeing, is facing a time of high demand for its single-aisle jets. The new assembly line is expected to help achieve the manufacturer's target to increase the production rate of the A320 family to 75 per month by 2026. The first aircraft from the new plant is expected to be completed later this year.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire visited the automated line inside Jean-Luc Lagardere's factory, and Airbus says it will create 700 jobs by 2026, or about half the full-time total when the world's biggest jet was built. there.
This is the eighth assembly line for the A320 family jets, with even more extensions planned. Boeing is also reallocating space from large jets to build smaller jets.
However, the area earmarked for the A380 continues as there is an 18-month program of inspections and repairs of the A380 after cracks were found in wing spars, Reuters reported on Friday.
