The small and attractive Velis Electro model is already certified in a pioneering way, a very attractive small monotomor with characteristics that can attract the private pilot, recreational or flight schools.

The small model, with a high wing and a very attractive look, resembles a very modernized Cessna 150 or 152.

Although very attractive and modern the plane has its limitations. Like any electric vehicle, its autonomy is reduced (about 140 or 150 km, a little less than an hour at cruising speed).

The manufacturer Pipistrel is investing in electric models and its website contains information on two other models, Alpha Electro and Taurus Electro.

For now, electric power is not feasible, in terms of energy potential to propel commercial or larger aircraft, which need more significant autonomy and which also cannot afford the enormous weight of batteries proportional to their need for power ( on Velis the batteries represent about 20% of the weight of the device).

Anyway, electric power has a seductive potential, at least for now, for recreational, instructional and small aircraft.
