Danger in the air

General aviation fuels under suspicion

Brazil may be experiencing a very serious danger and a serious threat to the flight safety of general aviation. Recent experience of several owners or technicians and companies that provide maintenance for this air segment has reported the finding of aggressive corrosion and disproportionate and unexpected damages and many components exposed to contact with the fuel.

The reports and reports of these pilots reached ANAC and ANP and the agencies went to the field to see what is happening.

Inspection and collection of samples have already been carried out for analysis at least at the airport in Campo de Marte, in São Paulo. Given the seriousness of the situation, it is not to be ruled out that the agencies will endeavor to track the quality of fuels elsewhere in Brazil.

It should be noted that this is a threat that affects general aviation powered by gasoline, whether jet planes and turboprops, as well as commercial aviation are not subject to the potential risk that appears to threaten smaller aviation.

ANAC has not confirmed, for the time being, any fuel problem, but the pilots and their associations, such as AOPA Brasil, urge the agency to continue its investigations and publicly disclose the results found.

It is the case, now, to wait and track any irregularities and remove the affected fuels as well as to determine if there was bad faith, recklessness or malpractice, since the consequences of a possible defect in aviation gasoline, AvGas, can be tragic.
