Lufthansa reduces aircraft orders by 50%

The German national airline, Lufthansa, one of the largest in the world, is acting quickly and decisively to face the global crisis in the sector.

The most recent novelty is the reduction of up to 50% of orders for new models, from a total of 160 to just 80, to be received by the year 2023.

This measure, already expected - perhaps not in this proportion - adds to others already taken, mainly the reduction of the fleet with the deactivation of older models and less efficient in fuel consumption, such as the venerable 747 and several A-380 models. This even included the disappearance of some well-known brands, such as German Wings, which was extinguished by the decision of its parent company Lufthansa.

The total reduction in aircraft is expected to reach the figure of 100 units, out of a total of 730 for all companies in the conglomerate.

With this, the company hopes to become more efficient and, among other goals, to pay more quickly the large financing of nine billion euros contracted with the country's government.

The company rightly believes that the sooner it pays due, the more it pays off debt charges and the faster it will prepare for the growth phase that - hopefully - will come, sooner or later.
