The Russian S-500 system is capable of intercepting LRHW hypersonic missiles, according to Russian defense industry sources.

The LRHW is a system of long-range hypersonic weapons that will be used by the United States in order to be able to attack Russia from space in a possible conflict. It is expected that its maximum speed will reach 21 thousand km / h and that it will be able to shoot targets up to 2.7 thousand kilometers away.

According to the source, "the latest S-500 Prometei anti-missile defense system is capable of intercepting hypersonic aerospace weapons in flight, flying at even higher speeds. Thus, the American LRHW systems indicated in the media publications fall into the class of targets that the S-500 intercepts with high probability. (...) Considering the fact that in the concept of the LRHW the warhead will be a hypersonic glider with little maneuverability, it will be easy to bring down for the S-500 ”.

More advanced than the North American Patriot Advanced Capability-3 and the Russian S-400, currently used, the S-500 system is capable of intercepting targets at high altitudes and over long distances, offering greater defense against missiles, with a range of approximately 600 kilometers.

The S-500 has its own mobile radar that will enable it to expand anti-missile defense to more than one region, being able to reveal LRHW-type targets, according to the little information disclosed in little detail by Russian military sources.
