QantasLink, a regional subsidiary of Qantas, will modernize its fleet with the Airbus A220-300. There will be 29 aircraft of the model, which will replace its current regional aircraft, such as the Fokker 100 and the Boeing 717-100. The livery of the first aircraft, which should be delivered to the airline later this year, has already been seen and revealed on November 15 in an aboriginal scheme with shades of green and blue.
The aircraft appears to be covered in rocks in reference to the aborigines, native people of Australia.
According to the airline, the plane with registration number VH-X4A spent two weeks being prepared to receive the special painting, part of the traditional “Flyng Art” series. The painting was done by hand by a team of 100 people at the Airbus factory in Canada, reminiscent of Qantas' red Boeing 747 a few years ago.
“These aircraft have the potential to change the way our customers travel across the country, with the ability to connect any two cities or towns in Australia,” said Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson.
