The airline Air Canada, which already operates the Boeing 787-8 and 787-9, has placed a firm order for 18 units plus 12 options of the 787-10, the largest variant of the model. The new planes are scheduled to begin arriving in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the last unit expected in early 2027.
The new planes are part of the company's fleet modernization plan and should be used to replace the old widebodies in operation. The company's fleet currently consists of around 240 aircraft.
The company also informs that the purchase of the new planes replaces another purchase agreement that the company made previously, when it ordered two Boeing 777F freighters.
The company did not say which planes currently in its fleet will be replaced. However, the carrier has Boeing 767-300, 777-200 and A330-300 jets in its fleet that have a high average age.
“Air Canada has made investing in the passenger experience a key priority. Our experience shows that customers really enjoy flying the Dreamliner, so we are pleased to offer them a larger version of this popular aircraft, which will debut a new state-of-the-art model,” said Michael Rousseau, president and CEO of Air Canada.
