In a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday in Reno, Nevada, two pilots were killed when their planes collided while landing during an air racing event.
The Reno Air Racing Association reported that the planes collided at around 2:15 p.m., at the end of the T-6 Gold race.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), only the pilots of each plane were involved in the crash. The FAA said one pilot was flying a single-engine North American T-6G and the other was flying a single-engine North American AT-6B. The two T-6 planes, which were used to train pilots in the Second World War, were destroyed.
The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) identified the pilots as Nick Macy and Chris Rushing.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct an investigation along with the FAA.
Air racing is currently suspended, according to RARA. This was the last year of the National Championship Air Races in Reno.
