This month, the CEO of Qatar Airways harshly criticized the A380 project, citing inefficiency and operating cost, even saying that its purchase was the company's biggest mistake. Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of Qatar, again criticized the European manufacturer.
According to Baker, the company may stop receiving Airbus jets because of a problem with the agreement, which was not specified. If the problem is not resolved, the resulting stoppage will affect companies other than Qatar, such as Latam and IAG, other companies in which the Arab group also has a stake. Airbus itself will also be affected, as this could delay the giant's recovery plans.
“If we are not able to resolve this serious problem that we have with them, we will refuse to accept any aircraft,” the CEO said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. Disagreements with Qatar Airways, warned Al Baker, will "stress Airbus' relationship with IAG, with Latam, with other airlines in which we have an equity interest."
The CEO said he couldn't give further details about the issue, as could Airbus, which just said it is in constant conversations with customers about their requirements and that the details of these discussions are confidential. Baker just added that the problem has nothing to do with the criticisms of the A380, as this is in the past.
