Recently, Jazeera Airways, a low cost airline from Kuwait, operated the flight of an A320 carrying an atypical cargo. In place of passengers, the aircraft carried boxes of mangoes, tied to the seats and also stacked in the luggage compartments.

The episode occurs because, as a result of the pandemic, the low demand for passengers meant that the greatest attention was directed to cargo flights. Even passenger planes were used to transport cargo, as a strategic alternative to deal with the crisis that the sector is currently facing. In fact, ways of transporting cargo without causing damage to aircraft seats were developed. Other companies have also joined in this adaptation of cargo transport.

The CEO of Jazeera Airways explained on his social networks that passenger traffic from Pakistan to Kuwait is restricted due to current health regulations. So, instead of passengers, the company transported mangoes. The flight's pilot, Elif Güveyler, posted on her Twitter images of the boxes of sleeves accommodated in the aircraft's seats and luggage compartments.

KLM has also embraced this adapted model of cargo transport and even dubbed it “Cargo in Cabin”. Thus, it started to transport medical equipment and PPE in its passenger planes, using canvas and plastic to protect the seats. The company initially used its Boeing 747s for such operations, but currently, after withdrawing this model from the fleet, it uses its Boeing 777s.
