The British Royal Air Force (RAF) F-35B Lightning II fighter jets took off from a British aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth to attack Daesh (Islamic State) targets in the Middle East. The operation took place on the 18th.
“HMS Queen Elizabeth's first missions against Daesh will be remembered as a significant moment in the 50 years of this ship's life,” said Commodore Steve Moorhouse, commander of the Carrier Strike Group.
“It also marks a new phase in our current deployment. To date, we have exerted diplomatic influence on behalf of the UK through a series of exercises and engagements with our partners. Now we are ready to deal the heavy blow of maritime airpower against a common enemy.”, he added.

Flightglobal portal said the aircraft were refueled by an RAF A330 MRTT Voyager. However, there are no more details about the attacks that day.
Captain James Blackmoore, commander of Carrier Air Wing said this is the first time since 1943 that US aircraft have operated from a British aircraft carrier and said the F-35B is the ideal aircraft for this type of mission.
