The Dubai government's low-cost company, flydubai, reduced orders for the Boeing 737 MAX by 65 units. Orders placed in 2013 and 2017 were for 251 aircraft. The announcement made by the company was on July 13th.

16 units had already been delivered by June 2021, so there were still 235 units to be delivered. The cut represents almost 28% of the units that had not yet been delivered and about 26% of the original order. As a result, another 170 MAX 8 aircraft still need to be delivered to the company.

The two companies agreed to reduce the order. "Flydubai reached an agreement with Boeing and the airline adjusted its aircraft orders that had been placed in 2013 and 2017," it says in a statement.
Flydubai says the reduction is due to a review of its fleet plans with the strategy of rebuilding the post pandemic travel industry and with the change in the company's dynamic route structure.

Boeing, in turn, says it values the strong partnership with Flydubai and regrets the impact of grounding the MAX on the company's operations. "We are pleased to have arrived at a solution that helps them deal with this and the impact of the pandemic, and adjust their fleet needs."
