Gol has plans to replace 23 units of the Boeing 737-800 NG within a period that will not exceed the end of next year. Therefore, it announced on August 3 that it should acquire more MAX-8 units, and it expects to close the year 2021 with 28 aircraft of the model, and by 2022 there will be 44.
The company is renewing and transforming its fleet, so that the new planes are expected to reduce their unit costs by 8% in 2022. Gol has already returned 18 Boeing 737-800 NGs in the last 18 months alone, and the new agreement should streamline further these returns on short-term leases.
Gol is already one of the companies that operates the model, and currently has 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. However, the company plans for 75% of the fleet to be composed of aircraft of the model by 2030. Half of the entire fleet will be through financial leases, so that the company will be able to increase or decrease the number of aircraft according to the demand.

The company also has plans for its decarbonization, which should take place by 2050. The 737 MAX-8 should contribute to the reduction, as it consumes 15% less fuel, has 40% less operational noise and 16% less carbon emissions than the than its previous generation counterpart, the 737-800 NG.
“We are accelerating our fleet transformation plan. The 737 MAX positions GOL more competitively for growth through the expansion of routes and destinations, while increasing the company's value to all shareholders through greater efficiency”, said Paulo Kakinoff, CEO of GOL .
