Possibly, the accident happened because of an engine fire. Russian emergency services pointed out that the plane exploded after the crash. State-owned company Rostec said an internal commission will be created to investigate the causes of the accident.

Development of the plane has been underway by the lyushin Aircraft Company, part of the United Aircraft Corporation, which has been part of state-owned technology company Rostec, since 2014. The plane is made to replace the Antonov An-24 and An-26 turboprops.
