Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic due to its large international connecting traffic. However, the company set a goal to increase its capacity by the end of the year.
The company wants to reach 30% of the capacity it had before the pandemic in the fourth half, but the goal is ambitious, as some of its main markets continue to suffer from waves of Covid-19. Therefore, to achieve this goal, Cathay will depend on government and administrative decisions to reopen borders.
But such decisions seem far from reality, as the world is currently very aware of the Delta variant and concerned about the vaccination rate, which is still very low, which indicates that, in fact, government caution should increase even more and that it is not yet time to reopen the borders.
Despite this, Hong Kong is one of the most successful regions in controlling the pandemic, which is why the government still does not want to relax borders.
