Honda, which intends to grow in the aerospace industry, has already announced that it will bet on innovation after the launch of the HondaJet executive jet. The company will develop a space launch platform and an eVTOL.
These actions are part of what the company called “Vision 2030”, a set of goals such as zero environmental impact and traffic accidents, in addition to more ambitious projects, such as space exploration and missions to the moon.
One of the company's goals is to participate in the nascent Urban Air Mobility segment, which Honda decided to bet on hybrid propulsion technology, instead of an energy matrix based exclusively on batteries.
Despite the limited information disclosed, it is already known that Honda's eVTOL will have a range of 400 km and will be aimed at regional flights.
Like the HondaJet and the company's cars, the eVTOL will be part of a 'mobility ecosystem'.
Honda claims that "eVTOL all-electric aircraft face a range issue due to limited battery capacity, so the realistic use area is limited to transport within the city."
In return, the company says the aircraft will be equipped with a hybrid gas turbine power unit. Various technologies developed in other projects will be reused, including the company's participation in competitions such as Formula 1.
In the concept aircraft presented by Honda, there are two rear propeller propellers and eight lift rotors, but no technical details or specification were disclosed. There is also no forecast for the start of operations, the company just states that all initiatives "are challenges that Honda takes on in new areas".
