As part of the Commercial Market Outlook (CMO) 2021, Boeing forecasts that by 2040, 1030 new aircraft will be needed to meet the demand of the African aviation market, with more than 70% being narrow-body jets. Among the wide-body jets, 250 new planes, including passenger and cargo models, will be needed.
The most sustainable and modern planes are expected to account for 80% of deliveries, with 20% of these being directed to replacements of older models.
The forecast takes into account an expected growth in the African economy of 3% per year. The middle class and working population is expected to double by 2040, which directly influences the demand for travel and the forecast made by Boeing. During this period, airlines should increase their fleets by 3.6% per year, as the relative growth of passengers will be 5.4% per year, the third largest in the world.
The value of the new aircraft will be $160 billion, while the value of all after-sales services, such as maintenance and repairs, will be worth $235 billion. The total value in this market until 2040 will be 395 billion dollars.
“Africa has healthy opportunities to expand travel and tourism, coinciding with increasing urbanization and rising incomes,” said Randy Heisey, Boeing's Director of Marketing Middle East and Africa.
All this growth will require 63 thousand new professionals in the area, including 19 thousand pilots, 20 thousand technicians and 24 thousand cabin crew.
"African carriers are well positioned to support the growth of inter-regional traffic and gain market share by offering services that efficiently connect passengers and enable commerce within the continent."
