Today, Oct. 26, three piston-powered Cessna aircraft (172 Skyhawk and 182 Skylane and the 206 Turbo Stationair HD) are approved to use greener aviation gasoline (AvGas).
Textron Aviation has approved unleaded 91-octane (91U) and 94 UL fuel for the Cessna 172 Skyhawk and 182 Skylane. The 206 Turbo Stationair HD can receive the 100VLL (Very Low Lead).
One of the environmental problems arising from the use of conventional fuels in aviation is that they have a high lead content in their composition, forming undesirable and highly toxic substances after burning. The fuels presented minimize this problem.
“Textron Aviation is committed to sustainability and this announcement is an excellent opportunity for aviation enthusiasts to minimize their carbon footprint while continuing to enjoy the flight journey,” said Chris Crow, vice president of piston and utility sales.
After testing, the cleaner fuel was found to be compatible with aircraft with engines manufactured by Lycoming Engines. “We've produced more than 75,000 of these three piston aircraft models and this gives owners and operators around the world the chance to take action to reduce emissions,” he adds.
Textron Aviation is a major developer and supporter of projects involving Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
