Agricultural planes can now be used to fight forest fires

Law 14,406/22, which allows the use of agricultural aircraft to fight fires, was passed without vetoes.
According to the author of the bill approved last month in the Chamber of Deputies, Senator Carlos Fávaro (PSD-MT), the fire period coincides with the agricultural off-season in most of the Brazilian territory. It is estimated that the Brazilian agricultural fleet is the second largest in the world, with about 2400 aircraft that are idle at this time and that can help in the noble mission.
The new rule amends Decree-Law No. 917, of October 1969, which provides for the use of agricultural aviation in Brazil. The added paragraph says that these planes may be used to fight and prevent fires, including training and training pilots.
However, contingency plans prepared by environmental agencies must have specific guidelines for the use of these aircraft.
Aircraft must meet standards and requirements to be used for this purpose. The use of aircraft can be encouraged by public authorities.
