Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto confirmed that the country is close to purchasing 36 F-15 aircraft. The value of the deal is up to 13.9 billion dollars, with equipment related to the plane included.
The possible sale of the F-15EX Eagle II fighters was approved in February by the US State Department.
“The F-15 negotiations continue and we are in advanced stages. I think that now it will depend on the government to finally decide”, said the minister of defense.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the acquisition of the F-15 would enhance interoperability and complement Indonesia's fleet of 33 F-16 jets.
In addition, at the beginning of the year, Indonesia signed a contract with Dassault Aviation for the acquisition of 42 Rafale fighters, worth US$8.1 billion, which are expected to be delivered next year.
The Indonesian Air Force currently has a fleet consisting of F-16, Su-30, Hawk 209, T-50 and A-29 Super Tucano aircraft.
