Nationalization of Russian commercial aviation continues to advance. The first Irkut MC-21 narrowbody jet was seen in Rossiya Airlines livery. The plane registration 73054 flew from Moscow Zhukovsky to Ulyanovsk on November 10, where it received its livery. However, the aircraft delivery date is not yet known.
The plane will be used by Rossiya Airlines to develop a plan for a potential route network and maintenance bases. The aircraft is due to return to the Yakovlev Design Bureau carrier's Flight Test and Development Complex in Zhukovsky next week to conduct training to continue certification work.
Rossiya Airlines is part of the Aeroflot group, which, as of September 2022, has placed 210 orders for the aircraft.
In July 2021, Irkut Corporation and Rossiya Airlines entered into an agreement to prepare for commercial flights on MC-21 aircraft. These tests will be carried out on three aircraft with the airline's red-gray-white livery and will not be included in the airline's fleet.
The aircraft that received the livery is the only one of the three prototypes that still has the original Pratt engines.
