Batteries are important to both the aeronautical and automotive industries. In this way, Renault and Airbus signed an agreement to join engineering efforts to develop more efficient batteries.

Both companies are driven by the desire for lower emissions. Thus, energy management will be the subject of study. In addition, if current lithium-ion batteries can be replaced by solid-state batteries, the energy density can be doubled, resulting in batteries with lower weight and longer autonomy.

"This cross-industry partnership with Group Renault will help us to mature the next generation of batteries as part of Airbus' electrification roadmap... development of the disruptive technologies needed for future hybrid aircraft architectures in the 2030s and beyond. It will also promote the emergence of common technical and regulatory standards to support the clean mobility solutions needed to achieve our climate goals," said Sabine Klauke, Technical Director from Airbus.

This union could make hybrid-electric planes more viable, as well as hybrid cars, in the future. This technology could represent a very promising scenario towards zero emissions.
